"description":"<div style='text-align:Left;'><div><div><p><span>The Beluga whale critical habitat, which includes the Upper Estuary, the Saguenay River up to Sainte-Marguerite Bay, and the southern channel of the Lower Estuary, supports the vital functions of calving and rearing of the young.<\/span><\/p><p><span>Due to the lack of information, studies are planned in the near future to increase knowledge of the species. Critical habitat actual limitations could change someday.<\/span><\/p><p><span>The beluga (Delphinapterus leucas) population in the St. Lawrence Estuary was greatly reduced by hunting, which was finally banned in the St. Lawrence in 1979. In May 2005, this beluga population was officially listed as a threatened species on SARA\u2019s List of Wildlife Species at Risk.<\/span><\/p><p><span>Les fonctions vitales de mise bas et d\u2019élevage du béluga ont lieu au sein de l\u2019habitat essentiel, délimité par l\u2019estuaire moyen, la rivière Saguenay jusqu\u2019à la baie Sainte-Marguerite et le chenal du sud de l\u2019estuaire maritime.<\/span><\/p><p><span>En raison de l\u2019insuffisance de l\u2019information disponible, des études sont prévues dans un avenir rapproché afin d\u2019accroître les connaissances sur l\u2019espèce. Les limites de l\u2019habitat essentiel actuellement présenté pourraient être appelées à changer.<\/span><\/p><p><span>La population de bélugas (Delphinapterus leucas) de l\u2019estuaire du Saint-Laurent a été grandement réduite par la chasse, qui fut interdite en 1979 dans le fleuve Saint-Laurent.
