Description: Estimates of Fetch over a total of 41,720 km of the BC coastline were calculated at 50 m intervals, yielding 778,330 near shore fetch points. Fetch is a proxy for Exposure, an important driver of nearshore species distributions. It serves as a proxy for wind-wave action in the absence of a wave model. Fetch was calculated for FIVE regions in Pacific Canada: Haida Gwaii (HG), Queen Charlotte Strait (QCS), Strait of Georgia (SOG), West Coast Vancouver Island (WCVI), and the Central Coast (Prince Rupert - Cape Caution - PRCC). Fetch was calculated at 50 m spacing, using a bearing interval of 5 degrees (giving 72 fetch lines per point) for all regions of Pacific Canada. A maximum fetch distance of 200 km was used to ensure the barrier effect of Haida Gwaii was captured. For more information, see the report describing the creation of the data that should have been distributed with the data.
